  • Oh, Justin. You shoulda been gay. You're too beautiful to be straight. But you're so talented, it doesn't matter. When I slip gently into death, your shining image will ease that transition. Many thanks. May joy greet you at every turn in your life.

  • Justin was absolutely wonderful as Kevin in the Leftovers. A deeply moving performance and a very powerful show. It should be way better known.

    Matthew AmbroseMatthew Ambrose7 dögum síðan
    • @Matthew Ambrose To me, Matt's situation is even more harrowing than those who had their loved ones mysteriously disappear. The body of the person he loves beyond all others was in his possession, but her spirit was absent. He had the house of worship that's a physical symbol of his religious faith and devotion, but it was in the process of being stripped from him by circumstances beyond his control. He was having his supposedly unshakable faith tested, either by an indifferent universe or an emotionally sadistic God. Every direction he turned in offered nothing but dashed hope and compounding trauma. He was being bludgeoned and watching his story play out is harrowing to anyone who's had life play pugilist with their sensitive bits. Knowing my friend as I do, I should have known that episode would be his breaking point. I had pegged Kevin's peculiar erotic coping mechanism as his bailing point and was surprised when he got through it with a hard eyed stare.

    • @Em E. Gosh, yeah that's a very strong reaction. I really feel for him. Midway through the Matt episode in S1? That's a curious place to be particularly affected as it deals a bit less directly with grief per se etc., and is overall a bit more 'enjoyable' in some ways, even given the depressing ending. But yeah, it's a very intense show. I found myself moved to tears many times, and it left a very powerful impression on me. I know for a fact that my parents wouldn't be able to watch it either; they're both very sensitive people.

      Matthew AmbroseMatthew Ambrose3 dögum síðan
    • @Matthew Ambrose -- He is struggling with all of those issues, especially grief, abandonment and depression. He'd be an easy mark for a cult, except for his need to question any and all things that fall outside the parameters of sound reasoning. His intellect is a double-edged sword. I have a strong feeling that getting through the show would be a great help to him, but he can't get beyond the 3rd episode of Season 1. Midway through that episode is when he exploded with, "NO," and threatened to leave if I ever brought it up again.

      Em E.Em E.3 dögum síðan
    • @Em E. Wow, that's intense. It's very heavy on topics like loss, grief, abandonment, cults et., so perhaps something in it he was especially sensitive to.

      Matthew AmbroseMatthew Ambrose4 dögum síðan
    • Some individuals CAN'T watch that show. I adore it and tried to get a friend of mine to watch it. His reaction to it was an unexpectedly visceral rejection-- his entire body began shaking and he said, "NO." That was that.

  • Tell Justin to stop promoting pit bulls, or did he not read the story this week of the 7-year-old who was mauled and killed by two pit bulls and her mom sent to the hospital? That happens almost weekly somewhere in this country by pit bulls. I guess they make great pets if you don't make any loud noises or sudden moves around them or catch them in a bad mood. Not to mention all the pets they kill :(
